There’s more to wellness than just working out and consuming healthy foods. Taking a complete approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is critical for your overall wellness. We like to describe this as self-care. Here are some of our favorite approaches to self-care.
We may be practicing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t connect with each other! Arrange an online coffee date or happy hour with your friends. Keep topics uplifting and tell each other one good thing that happened to you recently. Brainstorm plans for when you can be together again and how comforting it will be to give them an enormous, warm hug. Together we are stronger and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Build an agenda for your yourself but give your day some flexibility. For example, wake up around the same time every morning and get in bed around the same time every evening. Draft your goals for the day and plan out your work tasks, but give yourself some time for your daily workout, a walk outside, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too harsh with your plan that you create unnecessary stress. Finding a balance between a program and relaxation will help you have a more constructive and satisfying day.
Gratitude is good for us. The more gratitude we give to others during difficult times, the happier and tougher we become. Provide others grace. One of our favorite ways to carry out gratitude is to contact a loved one and tell them how much you cherish them. A a nice note is also an exciting and enjoyable surprise that is certain to make anyone’s day.
Nothing’s better than spending time outdoors, breathing the fresh air. Take a stroll with your pup every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and ask them how they’re feeling. Hang out in the sun for a bit and try taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for a meal at a restaurant doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy meal time! Make a new recipe for dinner and make your meals feel like an event. Listen to your favorite song, get the kiddos involved, and have some fun with it!
